Office & Professional Employees International Union

Dear Dan, Michael and Linda,

Thank you for supporting the young worker movement and for sending us to the Next Up Young Workers Summit to represent OPEIU Local 2.

We met other enthusiastic OPEIU members from across the country, learned a lot, and had a great time. We are ready to bring all of the energy,

inspiration and solidarity that were so pervasive in Minneapolis back to Local 2.

We propose that Local 2 create a Young Worker Committee. The first and primary goal of the committee will be to get young members involved

in the union and the labor movement. We have many ideas about how to do that but the first step is getting the Local's support and endorsement

by forming an official committee.

As you know, today's young workers are the tomorrow's leaders. We need to create an active and engaged membership across all shops, ages, genders,

and races. It is important to get our newer and younger members into the conversation and into the movement right away. Young people are leading

the Occupy Wall Street fight just like they did in Wisconsin, Egypt, and everywhere else there is a real movement for change. We need their support.

Another goal of the committee will be to build partnerships with other young activists including college student groups; local religious and faith

community groups; groups such as Jobs with Justice, Working America, and others who fight for the people; youth groups such as the DC, Northern

Virginia, and Baltimore Young Trade Unionists; and other local unions (OPEIU and others).

We know that OPEIU has a national Rising Stars program that is just in its beginning phase. We are hoping to get the committee/program off the

ground quickly, coordinate our efforts with the International's program, truly contribute to something larger, and show that Local 2 is a progressive

and forward-thinking Local.

We ask that you endorse this important committee so that we can inspire and mobilize our younger members.

Sincerely,
