Strikes are rare. In fact, 99% of all OPEIU Local 2 contracts get settled without ever going on strike. Sometimes
management’s tactics leave no other alternative, however, a decision to strike must be supported by the vast majority of
employees in the workplace. Union staff or members at other workplaces can’t call a strike. Striking is a last resort. There
are often other ways to put pressure on an employer to do the right thing instead of going on strike.
