 We are saddened to share that Michael William Cowan passed away on February 18, 2025, in Pasadena, California. Mike retired as the Secretary-Treasurer of Local 2 OPEIU in Washington, DC. He represented employees who worked at various places in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia, as well as healthcare workers employed at Kaiser Permanente. His involvement with Local 2 spanned more than 32 years. His first role was as an assistant shop steward in the Distribution Department at Washington Gas Light Company. His continued interest in union activities led him to work full-time with Local 2 OPEIU as a business representative in 1991. Mike retired in 2016 and moved with his wife, Valli, to Pasadena, California, to be with their children and grandchildren.
Mike’s Life Celebration will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 8, at the First United Methodist Church in Pasadena, California. A zoom address will be provided next week for online viewing. In place of flowers, donations to Camp Kesem UCLA (www.donate.kesem.org), a camp for children whose families are impacted by cancer, or the American Lung Association (www.lung.org) would be appreciated.
