AFL-CIO
The AFL-CIO, created in 1955 by the merger of the AFL and the CIO, is a democratic, voluntary federation of 56 national and international labor unions that represents 12.5 million working people. We are teachers and miners, firefighters and farm workers, bakers and engineers, pilots and public employees, doctors and nurses, teachers, painters and plumbers—and more, including 3.2 Million members of our community affiliate Working America, which represents people who do not have a union at work. www.aflcio.org AFL-CIO unions AFL-CIO Worker Center Metro Washington Council AFL-CIO
As the voice of working people in local communities across the United States, the AFL-CIO Central Labor Councils are the heart of the American labor movement. By uniting the labor movement and mobilizing the local community, the Councils play a critical role on local, state and national issues as we work to accomplish our mission “To organize in the community to promote social justice for all working people.” The Metropolitan Washington Council is proud to be at the forefront of this movement, working with nearly 200 affiliated union locals and our community, religious, student and political allies to improve the lives of workers and their families throughout the greater metro Washington area. www.dclabor.org Metro Washington Council affiliate contact info Metro Washington Council affiliates Sign up for Union City News, the e-zine of Metro Washington Council |
