Kaiser Workers Fight for and WIN Fair Contract!

Vertical Divider
Picture
It's been a bitter battle, but...we have finally settled a tentative agreement with Kaiser! THE STRIKE IS CALLED OFF! Early this morning 83,000 healthcare workers nationwide reached a tentative contract settlement with Kaiser Permanente. The historic agreement revitalizes the long-standing worker-management partnership, protects good, middle class jobs, bans subcontracting and strengthens protections against outsourcing, and establishes a $130 million workforce development program. This is a huge win for workers, patients, and our communities.  We still have to lock it in - ratification begins on Oct. 1 - but for now, let’s celebrate the incredible solidarity and hard work that produced this agreement! Kaiser Union Members Vote to Authorize Strike

Vertical Divider
Picture
We came out, and we came out STRONG. 76% of our Kaiser union members voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike. 97% of clerical/technical members voted to authorize, along with 90% of professional members. We are filled with love and support for our hard-working Strike Captains, Stewards, and volunteers who came out to set up voting locations at 5am and did everything they could to bring their colleagues out to vote. They didn't think it could be done, but WE DID IT!

This is added to working more hours with no proportionate compensation and 7 years of wage freezes. And management? They just gave themselves $4,000 bonuses in December. Stay strong!

In 5-4 decision, Supreme Court undercuts workers’ freedom to organize, Economic Policy Institute. AFGE says #EOhellNo

Vertical Divider
Picture
On Friday, May 25, 2018, Donald Trump issued three executive orders (EOs) targeting the union representation and rights of federal employees in the workplace. AFGE is fighting back against these executive orders and any unlawful treatment of all federal employees. AFGE needs all of us ready to act as it responds to this egregious and outrageous attack. Read the Executive Orders and support AFGE to fight back here.

President's Report: 2017 Summary & 2018 Plans

Looking ahead, 2018 looks to be a very challenging year. The United States Supreme Court will soon decide the case known as Janus vs AFSCME, which could affect the entire labor movement. Combining this with a White House and Congress controlled by a very conservative Republican party, Labor will have to fight to survive. Local 2 has prepared with a combination of shop steward training, organizing, and improved communications with our members.

Vertical Divider

60 OPEIU Local 2 members stood up to American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) management after their anti-union bargaining team tried to impose contract language that would remove the workers' right to a weekend, gut the grievance procedure, limit the union’s ability to represent their members and give management the right to unilaterally extend probationary periods.
