3/23/2017 Racial Justice Brainstorming MeetingThe Local 2 Racial Justice Working Group met last week to welcome new members and plan the direction for the Local in 2017. The meeting included members from SEIU, AFT, APWU, WMATA and others. The group will focus on the unique challenges facing people of color and allies in the workplace and the labor movement, the impact of the Black Lives Matter Movement on the fight for collective change and how Local 2 can be a part of the discussion of racial justice in our shops. There were a lot of new faces and great ideas exchanged. The group wanted to focus on holding different racial justice events, such as a special viewing of the movie "13; and developing material that will assist other shops in having difficult race conversation; and continue to include racial justice conversations at the OPEIU Local 2 Executive Board meetings. This active and highly motivated group wants to hold monthly meetings to continue planning and expanding on ideas.
Thanks to the support of the Local 2 leadership racial justice has become a priority for our union. If you would like to join us, please email Caniesha Washington at [email protected]. Keep your eyes open for the next meeting of the Racial Justice Working Group! Comments are closed.
